Checking in

Monday, October 8th, 2001

Well, it’s been a while. This summer I was tired and ill. I knew I had to make some changes and became very depressed for a while. But now I feel better - some things are different and others remain the same. Meanwhile, the world starts to look more and more like that old chinese curse about living in interesting times. But reading all the great webloggers sometimes makes me feel this is basically a good world - so thank you everyone!
Hal is talking about his old Unix books and Garret links to very technical news about FreeBSD. Me, I just bought myself a lot of hosting over at Imeme and is getting into Unix sysadmin mode again. But Hal has it right:

I used to know that stuff”, I thought. But, it is probably like a bicycle, I’m sure I could climb back on and crash into the nearest wall at 100 miles an hour, just like in the good old days.

Last night I read discussions on Metafilter about the US bombing of Afghanistan as it happened. For those of us who are not American, these discussions can be very fascinating.

Mark Pilgrim, author of fantastic online book Diving into Python is looking for work. His recent writing, both technical and personal, is very impressive. Some company is about to get lucky.

Over at Flyingchihuahuas, Greg is musing about .Net and reading books about Japan. And when we last heard from Justin Hall, he was drinking sake in Tokyo.

I went swimming today. It’s been a while and I am way out of shape now. But it felt good anyway. And Aila is here, and that feels good, too. It’s time to sleep soon.
